Oh, Oscar

I stumbled upon an Oscar Wilde quote today that I really enjoyed. The quote reads: “You can never be overdressed or overeducated”. Oscar, you’re preaching to the choir but I’m sure not everyone thinks that way. I think that it is important to take pride in your appearance, how you like yourself to be, as well as in your knowledge. I am openly nerdy about art because I love it! I will also wear those overalls with cheetah slip on sneakers to the library. Maybe Oscar and I are weird but oh well maybe more people should be.

This quote reminded me of Joan Didion and Céline who partnered together for their ad campaign this season. Joan Didion is a literary journalist and novelist. She graduated from the University of California, Berkley in 1956 with a degree in English. Her senior year, she won an essay contest sponsored by Vogue! She has worked at Vogue, Life, Esquire, The Saturday Evening Post and The New York Times. She has almost written some amazing novels such as The Year of Magical Thinking, a response to the death of her husband and to the illness of her daughter. Not only is she an accomplished writer, she is also a tasteful fashionista.

Now 80, Joan Didion is the face of the French luxury ready-to-wear company, Céline. I think this perfectly encapsulates Oscar Wilde’s quote through the grace and elegance of the accomplished author and polished figure of style. So let’s all take a lesson from Oscar and Joan and enjoy what you love and what you love to wear!
