Good day, fellow readers! It is I, Nikki, and I am back! I’ve been really inactive because it was finals in our school and I had to catch up with my grades. It’s now summer vacation, and you know what that means? *wink wink*
I recently posted in my IG (ig:nikkinovels) that I started reading Divergent and Diary of a Young Girl but both stopped reading it because it didn’t get me. So, I scanned through my shelf and found a book to read. I chose Gone Girl. And it blew my mind.
Gone Girl is Ms. Flynn’s debut novel and I have to say, it really impressed me. I read Before I Go To Sleep and I love it. I read this, and damn, I should keep reading mystery novels. Gone Girl is way different from any other novels, and the characters inside this book is exquisite.
Gone Girl has a very complex plot, but I’m going to give you the simple one: a married couple in the town of Missouri celebrates their 5-year wedding anniversary. Boy leaves their house early in the morning to go to his sister, gets back home because of a call from his neighbor, boy gets home, realizes wife is missing, then BOOM. Boy gets blamed.
The setting, just like I mentioned above, takes place in Missouri. There are also scenes where Nick, the husband, goes to St. Louis, Carthage, Hannibal, and New York to meet someone or to do some husband-stuff.
I love the characters in this book! We have Nick Dunne, Amy Elliot Dunne’s very good-looking husband; Amy Dunne herself, the missing wife; Margo Dunne, Nick’s twin sister; and Desi Collings, a really eccentric man from Amy’s life. These characters are truly phenomenal and — as I have watched the film adaptation myself — I can safely say that I love them in both the book and the movie. I love it, I just really love this.
The probable theme here is revenge. I wouldn’t give off much details because I don’t want to spoil you. ^_^ The book is written in First Person POV, Nick and Amy’s.
I totally recommend the book to readers out there and if you’re too lazy to read it, watch the movie instead! But the finale of the film’s a bit confusing, so I suggest you read the book as well.
Happy reading!
