Plenty of Wonder Woman Merchandise Available

Some worried whether the Wonder Woman movie was getting enough marketing, but qualms were set aside after its opening weekend set records: Wonder Woman was a box office smash on its opening weekend, raking in more than $100 million domestically — a new record for a movie directed by a woman [Patty Jenkins]…. And it compares well to similar movies — that is, superhero flicks that aren’t sequels or ensemble films. While it’s not as big as the opening weekend [...]

Wynonna Earp Only on Blu-ray

KC and I have been waiting for an announcement of Wynonna Earp coming to home video. We wanted to see what kind of show they made from old friend Beau Smith‘s stories, and we don’t have cable, thus no Syfy channel. Oddly, though, the only thing that’s been announced so far is a crowd-funded Blu-ray release estimated to be out in September. Co-producer (and comics publisher) IDW Entertainment has put up a campaign running for the next couple of months [...]

Brigsby Bear Explores Creation as Therapy

Coming out July 28 in New York and Los Angeles is an odd little film starring Kyle Mooney (Saturday Night Live) called Brigsby Bear. James (Mooney, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Kevin Costello) is obsessed with the kids’ show Brigsby Bear, having seen all of its hundreds of episodes. His life is isolated, residing in a bunker with only his parents and the show for company. Then it’s all uprooted, and James decides to make a movie to finish [...]

Margaret and the Moon

Margaret and the Moon: How Margaret Hamilton Saved the First Lunar Landing is a new picture book that I read because it’s illustrated by one of my favorite artists, Lucy Knisley. It’s written by Dean Robbins. Now, as an adult reader, once I read the subtitle, I pretty much had covered the whole book. It’s only 36 pages, and the content is about how Margaret Hamilton was curious, studied math, and didn’t let people saying “girls don’t do that” stop [...]

The Gifted: Do We Need Another Superhero TV Show?

Fox has begun releasing promotional videos for their upcoming X-Men TV show The Gifted. Here’s the trailer: Stephen Moyer (True Blood) and Amy Acker (Angel, Person of Interest) play parents who discover their children have powers and so go on the run from the government. This action-adventure series looks to be a bit more approachable than the visually stunning but confusing Legion show on FX, which is also X-Men-connected. Unfortunately, it also look pretty familiar. Kid has traumatic incident where [...]

Murder on the Orient Express Trailer Released

The first trailer for Kenneth Branagh’s version of the classic Agatha Christie mystery Murder on the Orient Express has been released, and … mmmm … probably not a good sign that when he starts speaking, in his role as Hercule Poirot, I wanted to giggle. The accent, you see, is just so exaggerated. But not as much as that mustache! As with the 1974 classic (which won Ingrid Bergman an Oscar and sets a very high bar to meet), this [...]

Supergirl Season 2 Joins the Many Comic TV Shows Coming to DVD in August

I’m a handful of episodes behind, but I’m planning on getting caught up before then, I hope! Supergirl is a lovely beacon of hope on the TV screen, even if I disagree with some of the plot directions (Mon-El, boo!) this season. Having left the safety of being Cat Grant’s assistant at Catco Worldwide Media in order to figure out what she really wants to do, Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) continues to work with Hank Henshaw aka Martian Manhunter (David [...]
