Next Geary Murder Story Coming in October From NBM

I’m a huge fan of Rick Geary’s “Treasury of Murder” series, so I’m thrilled to see that there’s a new volume due later this year. (The previous was Madison Square Tragedy: The Murder of Stanford White, which came out at the end of 2013.) NBM has announced that Black Dahlia is due in October in comic shops, November in book stores. The “Black Dahlia”, 22-year-old aspiring actress Elizabeth Short, was found dead in January 1947 in Los Angeles, and her [...]

Thoughts on the X-Men: Apocalypse Trailer

X-Men: Apocalypse will be in theaters two weeks from tomorrow, as Memorial Day weekend kicks off the summer movie-going season. It follows X-Men: Days of Future Past, but the alliances and leadership has changed. This time, it’s Raven (Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence) leading a group of young X-Men “with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy)… to stop Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) and the Four Horseman.” The reviews so far… haven’t been good. Since they don’t hold press screenings in my [...]

Supergirl Renewed, Moves to CW

There had previously been concern over whether the Supergirl TV show, a breath of fresh air amongst the hero movies and TV series for starring a woman and being optimistic, would be renewed. Today comes news that it will be, but to cut costs, the show will move from CBS to the CW and move production from Los Angeles to Vancouver (where the other CW hero shows — The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow — are filmed). The show was [...]

Archie TV Adaptation Riverdale Goes to Series

The Archie Comics TV adaptation has been ordered to series for the CW. The one-hour live-action drama “will be written by Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and produced by Warner Brothers Studios and Berlanti Productions and has been described as a subversive take on the classic Archie mythos. Greg Berlanti (Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, a bunch more), Sarah Schecter, [Archie Comics Publisher and CEO] Jon Goldwater, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa serve as executive producers.” I’m not sure I’m ready [...]

Comic-Con HQ Launches Free Beta, Will Stream Con Man

Comic-Con HQ, the on-demand subscription video service, is now in free beta mode for iOS and web users. (There’s still no word on monthly fees, though, which makes me leery when it comes to giving them any credit card information.) Their free period ends July 25, which is the day after this year’s San Diego Comic-Con ends. The first sweetener to encourage sign-ups is a chance to win a free trip to the con for you and three friends if [...]

Two Catwomen Meet Across Generations

I suspect most comic fans aren’t aware of Home & Family, a daily talk show on the Hallmark Channel hosted by Mark Steines and Cristina Ferrare focusing on home improvement, parenting tips, health and fitness, and lifestyle issues. Yesterday, they aired a segment where Camren Bicondova (who plays Catwoman on Gotham) was introduced to Julie Newmar, the classic TV Catwoman. You can watch it here: It’s the usual happy chat, but it is neat to see how the character has [...]

Lady Killer Gets a Sequel

Dark Horse has announced that Joëlle Jones’ Lady Killer, a five-issue miniseries that started in January 2015 and has since been collected, will have a sequel. Lady Killer 2 will continue portraying Josie Schuller, a 1960s housewife and serial killer. Her family has moved to Cocoa Beach, Florida, but someone from her past is following Josie. Jones writes and illustrates the series. The first issue is due out August 3. The following variant cover is by Matteo Scalera and Moreno [...]
